The scent of lemon is one of the joyous smells of life. In Aromatherapy, lemons and lemon oil have many uses...

Aromatherapy and Lemon

Citrus Lemon has long been regarded for its Vitamin C content.  Navy sailors learned the importance of lemons first hand during World War I, when the threat of Scurvy was a reality.  Scurvy results from sailors being at sea for extended periods of time, and without adequate Vitamin C.  In fact, lemons have been designated as the “cure” for Scurvy and by law; ships must contain lemons on board.  Most cases of Scurvy have been prevented, yet in other countries that face famine, Scurvy is prevalent.  However the benefits of Lemon go much farther than preventing Scurvy.  Due to the high Vitamin C content, Lemon oil is great for boosting the Immune system and increasing circulation.

scent of lemon One of the most widely known benefits of Lemon is that it has astringent properties.  Lemon has been a widely used additive for many household cleaning properties, and most people associate the scent of lemons with a fresh and clean house.  Lemon has been used to treat mental conditions such as depression, anxiety, and nervousness.  It has also been beneficial in reducing fevers and removing thirst.

Lemon may irritate sensitive skin, so you should always test lemon oil on your skin before using it in large quantities.  Lemon Essential oil is obtained from the rind; the essential oil is very valuable.  Lemon oil has been successfully used to treat jaundice and will successfully cure ailments of the throat when it is gargled.

If you are looking for aromatherapy candles, you won’t have many problems finding lemon-scented candles.  You may decide to purchase organic soy wax candles rather than
Paraffin wax.  Paraffin is known to leave soot when it burns, however soy wax candles are 100% natural and don’t leave behind any soot or residue that may be irritating to those with coughs, allergies, or other respiratory problems.  Try burning lemon aromatherapy candles while taking aromatic baths or just burn them in your house to truly purify the air and to create an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheer, and energy.

Lemon has been used to stimulate circulation and is helpful for blood conditions.  You can create an aromatic bath by adding a few drops of lemon oil to your bath then soaking for at least 20 minutes.  Your senses will be refreshed by the highly fragrant scent inherent to lemons.

For head colds or chest congestion, add lemon oil to your vaporizer for instant relief.  You can blend lemon with other citrus-based essential oils for more effective remedies for circulatory conditions, colds, and the flu.  Try mixing lemon oil with Grapefruit, Orange, Mandarin, and Lime Oils for vaporizers and aromatic bath blends.

You can make great massage oil by blending Lemon Oil, Juniper Oil, and Thyme.  Take 30 drops of Lemon Oil, 30 drops of Juniper Oil and 15 drops of Thyme Oil.  Add these to your carrier oil (a carrier oil is used as the base for your massage oil) then shake thoroughly.  You can choose oils such as Olive Oil, Coconut, Macadamia, Flax, or Sunflower for your carrier oil.

From Angelica Root to Citronella Ceylon to Helicrhysum to Magnolia Flower to Ravensara Aromatica to Sandalwood Mysore to Yuzu and every oil inbetween, if you are looking for a particular Essential Oil!
